1. George Stoyonovich and Mr. Cattanzara try to escape from reality. George walks to the park every night and dreams about a better life. Mr. Cattanzara sometimes drinks alcohol and he reads the newspaper every night before he goes to sleep.

I recommend (that) people, instead of escaping from reality, to(מיותר) be active and take themselves into their own hands. People should do things to change their reality even if it's hard, because although the escape gives a short pleasure, the bad reality continues. (19)
2. George lied to Mr. Cattanzara when he told him he has started to read a lot of books. At start, Mr. Cattanzara just suspected that George lies(gr.) but after some time he understood that certainely(ww.-for certain). After that, they met at(ww.-in) the street and Mr. Cattanzara asked George questions that made George lie more and more. George liked Mr. Cattanzara, he didn't want to lie to him but he had no choice. Because of all the lies George felt so crumbling apart(meaning what exactly?).
George's lie affects his life both on short term and long term. On the short term, George felt very good. The rumor about his reading has spread quickly and people started to smile kindly to George. George's sister also became softer to him. But, George was uneasy too. He tried not to meet Mr. Cattanzara because he didn't (want) him to discover the lie. He stayed in his room and didn't talk with anyone. When they finally met, the hard conversation they had made George to(מיותר) start reading and actually change(gr.) his life, and that is the effect on the long term.(17)

Some of the autobiographic details that I have read about the author are reflected in the story "A Summer's Reading". The first detail is that the author has worked at odd jobs. In the story we are told that George had worked in odd jobs since he left school – (a) delivery boy, (a) stock clerk, runner and more. The second detail is that the author's mother died when he was young. In the story we are told that George's mother is dead and George is only twenty years old. The third detail is that the author was interested in simple people and actually all the characters in the story are simple: poor people who doesn't(gr.) work in challenging jobs and sometimes (are) not formally educated.
The information about the author let(ww.+gr.- leads) me (to) understand why he has chosen to describe George the way he has described him. After reading the information I saw similarity between George's life and the author's life so I understood that the author tells(gr.) his life story through the character of George. The story is probably about the author's life or at least based on it. (19)

4. George is a nineteen year old young boy who lives in an immigrants neighborhood. He doesn't love(ww.) his reality and he tries to escape from it by going to the park in the(ww.-at) nights. There, he dreams about (a) better life with(a) good job, a girlfriend and (a) nice house, but he doesn't do anything to reach this. Instead, he blames everyone but him(self) in the situation. He gets bored and loses his patience very quickly – that's why he left school and stopped reading the books he bought. The respect is the most important thing to George. His mother had died and although he has a father and a sister he is lonely.
Mr. Cattanzara is a stocky, bald headed man who works as a change maker on an IRT station and lives in an immigrants neighborhood. He reads "The New York Times" every night before he goes to sleep. He doesn't love(ww.) his reality so sometimes he gets quite drunk to escape from it. He is the only one in the neighborhood who really cares about George - he asks George questions that shows(gr.) his real interest in George's life. We can learn about Mr. Cattanzara from the meaning of his name which is "chained to one place". Mr. Cattanzara doesn't do anything serious to change his life.
George and Mr. Cattanzara are similar and different. Both of them escape from their reality instead of dealing with her(ww). Both of them don't do anything challenging in their lives, they are passive and don't do anything serious to change their reality. The difference between them is the age. George is still young and can success(gr.-succeed) in his life while Mr. cattanzara is too old for that. Another difference is their ways to escape from their reality: George is dreaming in the park whereas Mr. Cattanzara gets drunk.(18)
